Christ’s Immeasurable Grace | July 6, 2019

DAILY READING Ephesians 4:1-7 FIELD NOTES Our devotions all week have revolved around how we can measure a person’s faith.  What are the marks of a disciple of Christ?  How do you measure spiritual growth?  I struggle with perfectionism.  Instead of seeing how God is...

The Measure of Love | July 5, 2019

DAILY READING 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 FIELD NOTES Sometimes when we use words and phrases like “Love like Jesus” or “motivated by love,” it is difficult to tangibly understand what we mean.  What does “love like Jesus” look like in the reality of the...

Measuring Our Faith | July 4, 2019

DAILY READING 1 John 4:16 FIELD NOTES “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.”  This week, Davis asked us in his sermon, “How might you measure a person’s faith?”  To measure a person’s height, you...

DAILY READING Galatians 5:22-23 FIELD NOTES We know that we are called to be disciples of Christ, but how do we know if we are on the right track?  What are the marks of a Christian disciple?  One of the most famous verses of the letter to Galatians is the passage of the fruit of...

Am I a Good Neighbor? | June 27, 2019

DAILY READING Matthew 22:36-402 Corinthians 13:5-10 FIELD NOTES I enjoy taking almost any self-assessment I come across…serious or silly.  Sometimes I am affirmed, sometimes puzzled, and sometimes convicted.  I pretty much knew what was coming when I took the short...

A Good Neighbor? | June 26, 2019

DAILY READING Matthew 22:36-40Luke 9:37-44 FIELD NOTES There are many verses in this text worthy of reflection. I was trying to determine where to focus my writing. As I was walking to the refrigerator to get a cold drink, I wondered if Jesus had ever been called the Good Neighbor? He was...

DAILY READING Matthew 22:36-40Ephesians 2:11-22 FIELD NOTES I have chosen the Message for our daily reading because I enjoy its less formal language and I often gain additional insight into applying scripture to 2019.  In his letter to the Ephesians Paul is painting a picture of...
