Humble?

April 4, 2019

DAILY READING

Matthew 18:1-7
Psalm 51
This weekend’s reading: Luke 23:18-24

FIELD NOTES

This verse in Matthew is tough.  It calls us to be humble.  Is there anything that goes against our culture more than humility?  Everywhere we look, we see people building themselves up, whether it be financially, or through education.  Status counts in our world.

The Voice translation says: “In that kingdom[the Kingdom of God] the most humble who are most like this child are the greatest.”

Are status and personal gain important to you? Are you more focused on what you have accomplished or attained rather than your place at the feet of God?

We must remember God is above all and through all, and we are his creation.  It is not the other way around.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • Do I place myself above others?  Above God?
  • How do I go about guarding myself against temptation?  What are some practical ways of doing so?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • How can we be more humble with each other?
  • How can we be more humble with God?

PRAYER GUIDE

Lord, make us humble.  That is hard to ask of you, but we ask it anyways.  Make us humble.  Become greater, and make us less.  Amen.
