Integrity

DAILY READING

Psalm 101
This weekend’s reading: Genesis 4:1-16

FIELD NOTES

Let’s talk about personal accountability and integrity.  It’s often said that integrity is who we are when nobody’s watching.  What do you think of that?  You’re on a business trip in a city on the other side of the country.  You’re tired and driving a rental car that’s a little too small after dealing with TSA and Rental Car staff and riding a hot, too full bus from the terminal to the rental car lot.  You just want to get to your hotel and take a shower.  But as you’re driving, some person cuts you off while they’re on their cell phone.  You are furious.  You really want to show them your anger through some well-thought-out gestures and words.  And why not?  No one knows you here.  They have no idea you’re a member of a church and that you are also a small group leader for the youth ministry.  You can let the words fly and nobody will ever know.

So what do you do?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • How do we keep ourselves from doing bad things when we know we won’t get caught?

PRAYER

Lord, you are ever-present in our lives.  May we always remember that.  May we always live as we should—as beacons of light in the darkness, loving each person as ourselves.  Amen.
