Prevenient Grace

August 29, 2018

DAILY READING

John 15:16-25
This weekend’s reading: Genesis 6:11-22

FIELD NOTES

Prevenient Grace is grace that God bestows on us before we even are aware of who God is or what God does.  Prevenient Grace is where God chooses us before we choose to follow God.  Prevenient Grace is where God loves us before we love God.

Jesus speaks here about Prevenient Grace.  Remember, he says, that he has chosen us, and not the other way around.

We belong to God.  We are loved by God before we can even understand what that means.  God is working in our lives before we even realize it.

Because we are given this grace, we too should also extend that grace to those around us.  Our command is to love one another.  May it ever be so.

QUESTIONS FROM THE FIELD

  • In what ways do we see Prevenient Grace working in our lives and the lives of those around us?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • Where do you see God in your life?
  • Where do you see God in the lives of your friends?

PRAYER

Lord, may we always remember that you have chosen us first and that your love precedes every other aspect of our lives.  May we take that love, and may we share it with one another as you have called us to do.  Amen.
