The Light

March 9, 2019

DAILY READING

John 12:27-36
This weekend’s reading: Mark 15:21-24

FIELD NOTES
While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.”

On the first day of creation, God created light and then separated the light from the dark.  There’s an old Jewish Midrash saying that goes, “and the rest of the Bible is the children of God learning to distinguish the light from the dark.”

One would assume it would be easy to distinguish light from dark.  But the Bible provides story after story where we either couldn’t tell the difference or choose the darkness over the light.

So 2,000 years ago, God would take on human flesh and remind the people of the importance of knowing light from dark and then choosing to live in the light.

This Lent, ask God to reveal to you the ways in which darkness has sneaked into your life.
