FIELD NOTES
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

Being thirsty evokes phrases like ‘dry as the desert’, ‘parched in the throat’, ‘longing for a cool drink…without which we would die. When Jesus offers the water of life, I believe he offers it for both body and soul.

“Water makes up more than two-thirds of human body weight, and without water, we would die in a few days. The human brain is made up of 95% water; blood is 82% and lungs 90%. A mere 2% drop in our body’s water supply can trigger signs of dehydration: fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on smaller print… “ [APEC Water Systems]

Michael W. Smith’s song “I Can Hear Your Voice” captures the essence of what it means to be immersed in the water of life. Try a version of it on YouTube.

I’m in the river that flows from your throne; Water of Life; Water of Life
It covers me and I breathe again
Your love is breath to my soul.

I can hear Your voice as You sing over me. It’s Your song of Hope breathing life into me. I can feel Your touch as I come close to You. And it heals my heart. You restore and renew.
